It was announced that Christopher Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of the mythological epic ‘The Odyssey’ is set to hit screens on July 17, 2026. But what do we know so far about this star-studded project? Who’s in the cast, what is the film about, and what can audiences expect?
Homer’s Odyssey remains one of the oldest and most enduring works of literature, still widely read to this day. Centred on the Greek hero Odysseus and his perilous journey home following the Trojan War, the epic has been adapted for the big screen several times before. However, Nolan’s version, crafting with cutting-edge IMAX film technology, promises to stand apart from its predecessors. According to Variety, parts of the film will be shot on the island of Favignana, known as “goat island,” which is said to be the place where Homer imagines the hero Odysseus landing with his crew for provisions, off Sicily’s north-west coast.
The cast of this epic tale is equally fitting for its grandeur. Announced so far are Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron. Most recently, another name joined the cast: Jon Bernthal himself. After a long hiatus, the iconic Punisher Frank Castle will make his return to the screen with ‘The Odyssey’.
Set to begin production in the first half of 2025, the project will have Nolan penning the screenplay and producing alongside his long-time collaborator and wife, Emma Thomas.
