Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) recently hosted an event titled ‘GradTalks-1’, featuring graduates from the Department of English Language and Literature who shared their career experiences that began with translation. The event, held online on May 2, 2025, and uploaded to our department’s YouTube channel, provided valuable insights into how translation can serve as a gateway to various professional fields. While Dr. Özlem Çakmakoğlu served as the presenter of the event, Asst. Prof. Muhammed Baydere was the moderator.
Throughout the session, graduates discussed how their initial roles in translation opened doors to diverse career paths, emphasizing the importance of skills such as linguistic precision, communication, and attention to detail. We listened to the experiences of 12 graduates regarding their time as students in KTUDELL and their early work life. They also highlighted the significance of extracurricular activities and networking during university years in shaping their careers.
Of course, we all know that our department’s certificate can lead to many career paths, but through this event, you may realize that we don’t fully grasp its potential. It is possible to see our graduates doing your dream job or even inspiring you to change your future path.
